5 Benefits Of Creating A Vision Board To Manifest Your Goals

Updated: Jan 3, 2023

Ready to set new year intentions?

80 per cent of people never set goals for themselves. Even more surprising, of the 20 per cent of the population that does set goals, roughly 70 per cent fail to achieve the goals they have set for themselves. Vision boards help people create goals aligned with who they want to be, and what they want to do in order to have what they want.

In this blog post, I’ll:

  • Define what vision boards are

  • Explain how vision boards work

  • Share 5 ways vision boards help you reach your goals

What Are Vision Boards?

Vision boards are a collage of images and words that visually affirm our vision/goal.

They represent what we want to achieve and who we need to be in order to achieve our goals. Each time we see our vision board, it sparks motivation and inspires us to pursue our goals and dreams in alignment with who we are.

It’s a valuable tool to help us focus on and manifest what we truly desire, by harnessing the Law of Attraction. After all, our thoughts create our reality.

How Do Vision Boards Work?

Vision boards serve as a daily reminder, supporting us to move forward towards our bigger purpose in life. Placing it in a prominent place enables us to keep our goal, front and centre.

The key is to place the vision board somewhere where we'll see it, and feel inspired to move towards our goals. For example, in the bathroom, on the fridge in the kitchen or framed in our bedrooms, these are all great places to hang vision boards.

Seeing the board every morning and evening, when the mind is in a relaxed state, helps the vision permeate into our subconscious brains (the driving force behind the majority of our daily decisions and actions).

Compared to words, images convey a huge amount of feelings and complex information to our brains in a split second. An image of a beach hut on a tropical island conveys an image of freedom, adventure and tranquillity, whilst also engaging our five senses to imagine what it would feel like to be there. This is the POWER of vision boards.

5 Benefits Of Creating A Vision Board:

1. A powerful process to help us gain clarity on our goals

Life gets hectic for all of us. I get it. We get caught on the hamster wheel and next thing you know, another year has gone by and you’re still going through the motions of life. All of the outside ‘noise’ can cloud our judgments and quash our true desires. If we aren’t careful, we can get caught up in this space, and succumb to the ‘shoulds’ placed on us from external sources, without consciously stopping to reflect on what it is that we want and what truly matters to us on a deep level.

2. Helps us be intentional and focused on our goals for the year

Seeing our vision enables us to check in with ourselves and choose how we want to show up every day. How we want to be in the world as we live into our vision. Giving us a choice to be intentional with where our energy flows and what we focus on.

Vision boards expand our possibilities of what’s possible in life by helping us visualise our goals. They help us remember what’s important, and not to sweat the small stuff.

3. Inspires and motivates us to take action

Having a beautiful representation of our goals on display keeps us motivated to take action. Stay focused on our path, even when the odds are stacked against us or we feel demotivated and overwhelmed. It reminds us of our purpose and helps us move forward, despite the challenges and setbacks. Seeing it lifts our mood and brings a sense of meaning to our day.

4. The process is incredibly meditative and therapeutic

In a hyper-aroused and fast-paced world, slowing down is a radical act. Creating a vision board gives us permission to slow down, tune in and be introspective. To tap into our inner child. To be curious, and open to possibilities without fear or restrictions. There’s no right or wrong way of vision boarding and they’re incredibly fun to make.

When we play, all kinds of magic happen!

5. Acknowledge and celebrate our wins

People often go from chasing one goal to the next, oftentimes forgetting to stop and fully appreciate and acknowledge their journey. A vision board gives us a physical representation of our goals. It allows us to view our journey, our process. By doing so, we honour ourselves. We celebrate ourselves. We champion ourselves. We honour our accomplishments in a nourishing way, instead of running towards the next achievement.

As someone once said: "We tend to overestimate what we can achieve in one year and underestimate what we can achieve in five".

In Summary

Vision boards are not woo-woo, they’re a physical representation of what we want to achieve and attract in life. They remind us of our greater purpose and are incredibly fun and therapeutic to create. By taking the time to reflect, we gain clarity on our goals, helping us be more intentional and focused throughout the year. They motivate and inspire us to take action and acknowledge and celebrate our wins along the way.

I’m a visual learner, and I've been vision-boarding since 2013. It’s fascinating for me to reflect back on my visions over the years and notice how they've manifested in ways I could never have predicted. It truly is a marvel to reflect on my personal growth and achievements over the years. As someone who has a million and one ideas, having a vision board helps me stay focused on my higher purpose, and helps me to live intentionally.
